Bison Hunt - Part Deux

This time of year is a stupidly busy time of year for me, work-wise. Notwithstanding, I needed to get out. My friend, Scott, and I made plans to head up the Aishihik Road for a day of bison hunting before the season ends. We saw lots of moose sign, much of it fresh (It was like the moose were having a convention!), but we didn't see any bison. I couldn't complain, though; the skies were blue and the sun was warm and the snowshoeing was pleasant, and the company was good, and I was getting a chance to explore a new area. That's the recipe for a successful day in my books.

We saw one moose and two lynx. One of the lynx was so interested in something up in a tree that it was completely unconcerned with our presence. We watched it doing cat-like things as it walked around with its floppy snowshoe feet and hunted whatever it was in the tree that we couldn't see.

On our way home, we decided to make an impromptu stop at the sawmill near the Aishihik Road junction.  Of course, that's where all the bison tracks were.

We were treated to a tour of the sawmill.  My favourite was the blade room.  It would be perfect for a slasher flick!

Will there be another opportunity to go bison hunting again? I certainly hope so! Let's see how much work I can get done between now and the end of the month!
