This is not a blog entry about the solstice.

Unlike many northern bloggers who are posting entries about how today is the winter solstice (aka "hump day" and "shortest day of the year"), and about how we're going to start getting more sunlight from now until June 21st, I am not going to write about that. And I'm definitely not going to write about how the official sunrise in Whitehorse was at 10:10 and that the sunset was at 15:48 and that the day was five hours and thirty-eight minutes long.

Instead, I'm going to write that this is the 500th post to Michael's Meanderings since it moved to the Blogger platform from Live Spaces all those years ago.

So, uh, this is the 500th post to Michael's Meanderings since it moved to the Blogger platform from Live Spaces all those years ago. Hurrah! If I can't produce a quality blog, at least I can make it up on volume.

I think I'll celebrate by wishing all of you (in the northern hemisphere, anyway) a Happy Winter Solstice!

Six.

To be honest, I don't remember my wedding vows; I don't remember the details of the the covenant that I made with my wife of six-years-today, but I remember that they had something to do with sticking together in good times and in bad times.

This past year has thrown some bad times our way. Since we've been together, it has been, without a doubt, our worst year.

But also, without a doubt, it has been our best year.

In spite of everything, we've stuck together and have been there for each other. I have seen other marriages fall apart and am watching some disintegrate even now, but ours isn't one of them. If anything, I feel that ours is stronger than ever. Perhaps adversity is the acid test of marriage, and we have been tested.

I know that every year won't be as tough as this one, so I look forward to the future, and hope that we can stick together in good times as well as we have in bad.

Happy anniversary, Fawn.
