Even though I was in Yellowknife for a course that I need for my professional designation, in a way it was like I was there for a lot more than that.
As the territorial capital, Yellowknife is a meeting place. And did I ever meet people! First it was good to see Damon and Colleen again. Damon had a bad cold, but they were kind enough to let me stay with them during my visit. I ran into Arthur, the young fire chief from Fort Liard, Gerry Antoine from Fort Simpson, and lots of others. It was neat seeing my classmates again, too. Most of them are from Nunavut and they've got some great pictures and stories. I haven't been to Nunavut since 1998 (when it was still part of the NWT).
Though expensive, the course was excellent. I did a few work-related things while I was there and ate at a lot of restaurants. I was pretty sick of restaurants by the end of the trip. In fact, I was just plain sick. I got Damon's cold.
I had a lot more to write about Yellowknife, but so much has happened since, it has now slipped my mind. More about the trip and the busy long weekend to follow!
