Jade's seizure "routine", such that it has become, usually involves a bunch of quick twitches and/or absences at three to five minute intervals in the morning with a few more scattered throughout the day. On good days, she has fewer than ten. Some days, it's more like twenty. Saying it like that makes it sound like a weather report. I wish it were something that could be forecast, and I suppose it could be if I were willing to settle for predictions as accurate as Environment Canada's.
If a normal day is "scattered seizures in the morning", today was "severe weather alert". This morning, we only observed one seizure, but it was a doozy. Five minutes into the seizure, Fawn gave her valium. I was on the phone with 911 by minute six. The medication kicked in and the seizure subsided by minute ten. After that, she went into her sleepy state for a couple of hours.
We're now in the hospital where she's under 24-hour observation.
The interesting thing about today is that she hasn't had a single seizure since the big one this morning. The optimist in me wants to believe that today's big seizure was the last one - the one that ended everything with a bang. The realist in me acknowledges that the absence of seizures is probably the lingering effects of the Valium that was used to stop the big one she had this morning. The pessimist in me has never had anything useful to say, so I pay no heed to it - which is sort of like what I do with Environment Canada's weather forecasts.

The realist was the correct one. The absence of seizures throughout the rest of the day was likely the lingering effects of the valium. The seizures were back this morning doing their regular thing.
