Sometimes, when I hear the kids fight I let them try to sort it out themselves, thereby helping them to develop their dispute resolution skills. Sometimes, though, it's necessary to intervene.
Halia (crying): Jade hurt me!
Me: Jade, did you hit your sister?
Jade (calmly): No.
Me: Jade! Did you hit your sister?
Jade: I didn't!
At this point, what is an intervenor to do? Obviously, one child is lying. Could it be Jade? Jade has a history of honesty, but her sister obviously got hurt...
Me: Halia, where does it hurt?
Halia: On my hand, when I hit Jade on the head!
Score one for Jade's Skull of Justice, which rendered sound judgement long before I stuck my nose into the affair.
