For my birthday, way back when, my parents got me a baby carrier backpack. I hadn't had a chance to use it yet so, even though it was blowing and cold, Fawn, Jade, Nanuq and I headed down to Miles Canyon to find a couple of geocaches. There are caches are all over the place!!!

The carrier performed admirably, even when we left the trail and headed through the trees. The rain/sun cover did double-duty as a branch keeper-awayer.

We found our first two caches as a family. I was especially impressed by the rubber chicken in one of them.

Not quite wanting to head back home yet, we headed along the trail towards Canyon City. As I understand it (and maybe I'm wrong), Canyon City was a community (now defunct) that sprung up to accommodate gold rushers who had to drift through Miles Canyon. Because so many boats and rafts were destroyed in the canyon, the RCMP made it a requirement that the goldrushers use "captains" who were familiar with running the canyon. Canyon City was where the goldrushers waited for their turn.

We never made it there, but it was a beautiful walk. We stopped on the trail so Fawn could feed Jade. While the feeding took place, Nanuq had a great time chasing the rocks that I threw for him in the river, and I had a great time throwing the rocks for him.

The weather was lousy, but it was a great way to spend the morning. On our way home, we bought some plants from the Yukon Gardens and headed home for lunch and a nap. The nap lasted from 3:30 until 6:45.

A nice Sunday.
