The pinnacle of human achievement.

November 11, 2009

War is the pinnacle of human achievement.

"Ludicrous!" you declare.

I would fully agree. It is ludicrous. But consider this: In the history of human kind, no other activity has been as effective at rallying so many people and so many resources around a common cause. So much so, that people are willing to give their lives.

If war is the pinnacle of human achievement, it is simultaneously and undoubtedly the pinnacle of human folly. Rallying around the cause of the day (however noble), both sides send their strongest and healthiest to their deaths. That doesn't make any sense, evolutionarily speaking. Let's not forget the costs borne by the countries and families of those who have died. Let's not forget the costs borne by those who have survived and their families.

I pray that, one day, we'll reach a new pinnacle of human achievement - one that rallies every person and every necessary resource around a single common cause. A cause that does not need war to be achieved.

Peace.
