It fell from the sky.

HOLY SMOKES!!! DID ANYONE ELSE SEE THAT?!?!!?

Maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself...

I was out at a symposium this evening and, on the way back, I noticed the northern lights in my rearview mirror. My friend Garrett is in from Ottawa and he was at my house, waiting for me to get back from the symposium. I thought he would enjoy seeing the aurora borealis while he's in Whitehorse, so when I got home, I encouraged him to get bundled up for a walk.

By the time we got out, the light show had all but disappeared. We walked for a bit, hoping it would improve.

The temperature had dropped a fair bit and Garrett was wearing dress pants, so I chose a route that would make our walk a little shorter. The walk led us to a clearing where we stopped for a few minutes to see if the faint band of aurora would improve.

Suddenly, a BALL OF FIRE FELL FROM THE SKY! It started off as a little red streak and then flared into a bright yellow and orange ball.

Garrett turned to me with a bored expression on his face and said, "Did I just see what I think I just saw?"

And I said, "Yes."

He face erupted into a gigantic smile and I shouted out a big "Wahoooo!"

Then, the sky erupted into a fantastic northern lights show. The show would have been an impressive, memorable experience for anyone - if they hadn't just seen A BALL OF FIRE FALLING FROM THE SKY!!!

Did anyone else see it?!?!?!

Lucky ducks! All I saw was dark, dark and more dark. Lots of clouds here!

So far, the best place for the northern lights has been Hay River. Man they were amazing there. Go out onto the lake, away from the lights of town and it was amazing.

Although, at home in the Peace Country where I grew up it was pretty impressive too. So many times walking up the driveway to catch the school bus we saw them in pinks and purples.

No ball of fire but I did see the crazy northern lights show. What time did the fireball drop from the sky? lol

I've decided that the light show was your reward for being a great Dad, Micheal :)

Murray, Garrett isn't a dad, so he must have seen it as his reward for putting up with me as a friend.

Stacie, it was at 22:00-ish, northwest of the tank farm (towards Haeckel Hill).

According to a facebook message I got from Jerimiah, we can expect some more fireballs. Here's an article about where the fireball might have come from.
